Global issues are those events that are happening worldwide which create great social concern because they affect humans. Access to clean water refers to drinking water which is safe enough for humans to drink and wash in without becoming sick. Climate change refers to any significant and lasting changes in weather patterns over time. Climate change is often used to describe weather events which impact on humans, for example drought, floods and cyclones. Sustainable energy is energy which is created in such a way that will avoid draining natural resources like coal and gas. Examples of sustainable energy systems are wind, water and solar power. Land degradation is a process in which the value and condition of the environment (land) is affected by manmade processes (e.g. mining or land clearing) which cause harm upon the land. Threatened habitats refer to physical environments which are being endangered because of deforestation, erosion and pollution. Endangered species refer to an animal or plant species or group of species which are being threatened by the drastic reduction of their habitat due to deforestation, erosion, and pollution and/or by poaching or hunting. Overfishing occurs when an area of water is fished too much and fish numbers are reduced to very low levels. Source (Bliss, 2005) |
